Instrumentation: Five parts: flute/s or violin/s ; oboe/s or clarinet/s or violins ; clarinet or viola or horn ; violoncello or bassoon or trombone ; double bass or bass clarinet or tuba.
The ideal instrumental configuration is either a balanced combination of wind, string, reed and brass, or wind quintet. Parts 1 and 2 may be doubled.
