Work Overview
Like my Pilgrimage for toy piano (2015), this work was
written specifically for the 17-key Janod upright toy piano,
although it can be played on other toy pianos that have a greater
range.
The first movement explores two-part textures of similar motion
and contrary motion lines using dissonant intervals; the second
movement uses chordal textures based on superimposed major
sevenths and major seconds; and the third movement employs the
tone row from Webern's String Quartet Op. 28 which is based on
the letters of Bach's surname.
