Work Details

Year: 2000

Instrumentation: Soprano (or mezzo-soprano), piano.

Duration: 2 min.

Difficulty: Medium — Any level. Piano part moderate difficulty

Words adapted from those of Charles Kingsley.

The style harks back unashamedly to a certain style of Victorian parlour ballad popular in Britain and the USA, and by extension, Australia. I like to think that the choice of harmonies and tone-colours somewhat transcends this mawkish genre.
