Ashes of roses : SSA, recorders, guitar and harpsichord / words and music by May Howlett.
Library shelf no. 782.6526/HOW 1 [Not for loan]
Work Overview
Judith Clingan wanted a short choral piece for her chamber
ensemble, Gaudeamus, to perform on their Bicentennial tour. I
used a short poem that I had written for my daughter years
before.
My 10-month-old was crying; to amuse her, I held her up to the
mirror for the first time. My mother's photo was on the
mantelpiece in front of the mirror. She had died only weeks after
my daughter was born. Three generations looked at each other
across the years.
