Cadenza for 'Rhapsody in Blue' / Ashley Hribar.
Library shelf no. 786.2/HRI 2 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
I composed this cadenza in preparation for my performance of Rhapsody in Blue with the Szolnok National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dobbs Franks. It was first performed at the Bunka Theatre in Tokyo, September 2010 for The International Foundation for Arts and Culture and has since been performed in an orchestral setting by Aki Fuji, Konstantin Shamray and Mekhla Kumar. The cadenza uses fragments of the theme, sometimes improvised and combines different styles of traditional jazz, swing, blues and funk in a 'post-romantic virtuosity'.
