Work Overview
A short fanciful composition in one movement, this piece was inspired by listening to recordings of the oud, a plucked lute-like stringed instrument of Arabic origin.
The influence of the oud is two-fold. To begin with, the bassist is asked to play without a bow throughout the piece. Moreover, the composition is characterised by fast repeated notes juxtaposed with short melodic motives.
