Knights of Gallipoli traces, in music, the Gallipoli campaign and how a defeat and retreat was transformed into a sense of optimism for Australia. The title comes from a headline in the London Daily Mirror of 1916 at the time of the first ANZAC parades.
Instrumentation: Standard brass band, plus timpani and 3 percussion.
Duration: 9 min.
Difficulty: Medium — This is aimed at lower-grade brass bands.
Commission note: Commissioned by the organisers of Oakleigh Band's "Picture Night" event.
