A Postcard from Carlton : (Una cartolina da Carlton)

by David Kram (2004)

Work Overview

This is a one-act comedy which has toured to schools, children's festivals and regional arts centres. It has a pronounced Italian flavour and references Melbourne, especially Carlton. Some of the lyrics are in Italian. The music has operatic, music theatre and pop elements. It is especially popular with primary school audiences. The children's choirs also enjoy learning and performing it. It is usually performed by four adult opera singers changing costumes for multiple roles; a young soprano (also pop style), a more mature soprano (also belt style), a young tenor and a mature baritone. Whilst scored for piano, it has been performed with a small ensemble. Dr Kram can also orchestrate it if required.
