Work Overview

Py (2005) for flute and piano, dedicated to Pierre-Yves Artaud, goes through two parts: the first one, slow, static, takes its inspiration from wide open spaces and deserts in Australia. The treatment of the flute is reminiscent of "And then there was the sun in the sky".

The second part, like an increasingly wild and disjointed dance, uses rhythms that are soon abandoned and replaced by an avalanche of notes on the piano, then joined by the flute in a kind of frenzy that only a raise of the two instruments' register - gaze towards the sky, looking for the Gods?- can appease.' Geneviève Mathon.
