Work Overview
The text of this unstaged mini-opera muses on the Shakespearean authorship conspiracy theory. It takes as a foundation the characterisation of Jeanne d'Arc in Henry VI Part 1 and adds commentary on aspects of authorial attribution from various scholars, from those acquainted with Shakespeare and his circle, and from later devotees of the Bard. The baritone is required to 'play' the roles of Shakespeare, Jeanne d'Arc, the French commanders, the English foe, and the tortured Thomas Kyd, amongst others.
