Work Overview
Psalm 40 for women's choir was my gift to my first ever female priest, Rev Sue Burgess. I am very grateful that women have been involved in the ministry for over 30 years now in the South Australian Anglican church, whereas the Lutheran Church still rejects women's involvement. I left the Lutheran Church because of this and have found a new peace with Rev Sue leading our congregation. This was the set Psalm reading for the day of her retirement, so I composed a lyrical setting that includes: 'And he has put a new song in my mouth: even a song of thanksgiving to our God.' These words resonate strongly and are reinforced in the flowing style I have put in the accompaniment. The work concludes with the traditional Gloria as a final ending to celebrate Sue's ministry with our church.
