Work Overview

The mused-upon Sarabande is from J.S. Bach's B minor Partita for unaccompanied violin (BMV 1002). Musings uses the opening phrase from the Sarabande and fragments from the following Double, and is based on chord progressions from both (with digressions).

Instrumentation: 2 flutes, oboe, 3 clarinets, bass clarinet, 2 alto saxophones, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, bassoon, 4 horns, 3 trumpets in B flat, 3 trombones, bass trombone, euphonium, tuba, vibraphone, timpani (optional).

Duration: 5 min.

Difficulty: Medium — Intermediate/advanced student, AMEB Grade 4-5.
