The 2009 Stations Project asked selected Australian composers to write a work related to the concepts of creation and birth. The Station assigned to me was 'The Naming: How do we name that which is born?' and the available instrumentation was set - soprano, vibraphone and string quartet. This process resulted in the piece Beginnings and it is really the result of some of my own thoughts and ponderings on the idea of naming.
Instrumentation: Soprano, vibraphone, 2 violins, viola, cello.
Duration: 7 min.
Commission note: Commissioned by St.Ives Uniting Church for the 2009 Stations Project
