March on Duke Street : solo organ / Brett M McKern
Library shelf no. 786.5/MCK 3 [Not for loan]
Work Overview
Duke Street is a well-known hymn tune. This work is in the Edwardian tradition of marches for organ. It uses traditional march-like rhythms in a march metre, at a march tempo. There is a solid tradition of famous composers writing for brass bands, such as Grainger (from Australia), Ives (from America), and Holst (from England). Although the tune Duke Street lends itself to treatment as a march, and although there is a sturdy tradition of organ writing like this, the composer finally settled on the title of this work as the pun tickled his fancy!
