Year: 1988

Instrumentation: Piccolo, 8 flutes, 2 oboes, clarinet in E flat, 12 clarinets in B flat, bass clarinet in B flat, 2 alto saxophones, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, 2 bassoons, 4 horns in F, 3 trumpets in B flat, 2 cornets in B flat, 2 trombones, bass trombone, euphonium in B flat or BC, tuba, timpani, percussion (3 players).

Duration: 12 min.

Commission note: Commissioned by the Band Association of New South Wales as a test piece by the 'A' Grade Concert Band section of the Australian Bicentennial Band Championships, Bankstown, Sydney, 1988.

Composed after the poem 'A song of swans' by Mary Gilmore.
