Score [ePDF]
8 Etudes : for solo piano [eScore] / Thomas Misson.
Work Overview
As a pianist, I studied many of the Chopin Ètudes and came to admire their expressivity and musical poetry despite being essentially exercises. Chopin's means of focusing the materials of each ètude on those focused on the pianist's technical development inspired me to attempt emulating these qualities with a contemporary refocus. The following 8 Ètudes cover an inexhaustive range of technical issues a contemporary or new music specialist pianist might face.
The first performance of Ètude II was in October 2016 by Jack Barnes in Hobart, Australia. The first performance of Etudes V, VI, VII, and VII was in July 2017 also by Jack Barnes in Hobart, Australia. Thankyou Jack. I owe you a great deal for this performance and so much more.
