Kharis : for solo woodwind / Anthony Moles.
Library shelf no. 788.2/MOL 1 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
Kharis (pronounced
'hah-ris') means 'grace' in Greek. The
'Kharites', or
'Graces', are the Three Goddesses of grace, beauty, joy, adornment, festivity,
song and dance. This Triple Deity oversees activities of
happiness and entertainment, including sleep and rest.
In this short piece I wanted to
capture a feeling of a liveliness by (mostly) increasing musical
activity throughout. Also, where it sounded best, I tried to
musically represent the number three: materials are often grouped
in threes or repeated three times. It was fun to play this
musical game; I hope the Kharites
approve.
