Chorale prelude: Ich wollt dass ich daheime war : Tasmanian Sonata 4

by Ron Nagorcka (2016)

Work Overview

Late in 2015, David Scott Hamnes told me of his plans to record several of the fine old pipe organs in the north of Tasmania, and encouraged me to write specifically for them. This piece is a conventional chorale prelude in the baroque style and is preferably played on a large instrument as a trio sonata for organ. However I have also arranged it for performance on a one manual instrument.I discovered the chorale in the "Choralbuch zum evangelichen Kirchengesangbuch" (Christhard Mahrenholz & Rudolf Utermöhlen, Bärenreiter Germany 1960 - no.113 page 76.The last 4 bars of this piece (including the last beat of bar 41) are a faithful transcription of the arrangement presented there. The tune is attributed to Heinrich von Laufenberg in 1430.
