Work Overview

The pond (l'étang) was composed to capture the tiny bodies of water that are dotted throughout the countryside of the Charente region of France. There are insects landing and taking off, birds wading and feeding, alongside all manner of farm animals drinking. There are sunny spots and shady areas with reeds and overhanging branches. L'étang depicts a few minutes of watching the water as it reflects the life in, on and around it. The piece is made up of pairs of phrases where the first phrase is 'reflected' in different ways by the following phrase.
