After the cry : for clarinet, percussion and double bass / Haydn Reeder.

Work Overview
After the Cry is based on an earlier composition of mine called The Cry. In that song written in 1993, I set the eponimous poem by Garcia Lorca. It is in my song cycle called Songs of Love and Terror. The poem has a verse/refrain form which I have retained in After the Cry. Between cries, Lorca presents a calm set of similes to do with the shape of the cry, likening it to that of a mountain etc.. At the time of writing this piece I was investigating the nature of explosions and was intrigued to learn particularly that the end, when material is sucked back into the core, contains as much energy as the beginning.
