Work Overview
In this work, the performers play a very small repertoire of sounds that are varied in a small number of ways. A few simple questions form the basis of a system of interaction - a way to navigate through the sounds, draw connections between them and ultimately 'read' the sounds as if they were a score. These questions promote sensitive listening and subjective responses according to each performer's perception of their own sound, the sound of the other performer and the relationship between them. The performers' perception and responses, mediated by the system of interaction, generates the music in real time. Each realisation will be different.
The performance material outlines the learning process required to play 'between' - it is akin to an instruction manual.
