Work Overview

only the ocean knows is a meditation on the murky depths of the ocean, setting a shakuhachi soloist in a dialogue with the ensemble. It was inspired by the discovery of the HMAS Sydney off the Northwest coast of my native Western Australia. The Sydney sank after a battle in World War II, during which all 645 crewmembers were lost. It took 66 years to discover the location of the wreck.
