Reminiscences : for solo piano / Colin Spiers.
Library shelf no. 786.2/SPI 15 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
This collection of early piano pieces consists of five short works in the style of four famous composers. The first piece is a gigue in the style of J. S. Bach; the second is a prelude in the style of Debussy; the third consists of two preludes in the style of Scriabin; while the last is a scherzo in the style of Bartók. While the genre fits the model of French salon pieces written in the style of and in homage to various composers (à la manière de. . . ), only one piece mimics a French composer. The title Reminiscences was chosen instead to reflect the fact that the pieces now (some forty-five years after their composition) seem to belong to a distant past that is viewed with fondness and nostalgia.
