The acrobat : SSAA treble choir / music by Paul Stanhope ; text by Lawrence Ferlinghetti.
Library shelf no. 782.75542/STA 1 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
The Acrobat was commissioned especially by Gondwana
Voices for performance in 2004. The text is by the American poet
Lawrence Ferlinghetti (b. 1919) who is one of the members of the
beat poetry movement which was particularly active in Chicago and
San Francisco in the middle part of the C20th. "The Acrobat" is
one of Ferlinghetti's best known works. This very athletic and
virtuosic work for treble voices also tests the acrobatic skill
of choristers who dare to "perform above the heads" of the
audience. Doing so without the aid a safety net takes
considerable courage and agility.
