Work Overview
The work is based on the traditional form of the chanson for solo voice and accompanying instruments, using variations within the repeated verses. The text is taken from the first of the plays traditionally performed by the Guild of the Tannours, and dealing with the creation of light. The rise and fall of the angel Lucifer is vividly personified by one of the characters. In this setting I chose to use only fragments and key words from the original, in order to highlight the dramatic quality of the work.
