Work Overview
Breath Control is the work created for Clarinettist Richard Haynes. A
graphic score of detailed watercolours by the composer, it
sonically comprises little more than a sustained note held across
many, many minutes. As the title suggests it is primarily a
display of the Hayne's exceptional breathing technique (referred
to as 'circular
breathing,' replenishing the breath by
breathing in through the nose but continuing to sound the note by
blowing through the mouth using the air stored in the
cheeks).
