Work Overview
Maxim seeks to accentuate those qualities that set the traverso (baroque flute) apart from its more tempered, modern counterpart. The voice then provides an extension of these qualities. The writings of Russian literary theorist Mikhail Bahktin are used as an arbitrary source of text in Maxim. However, Bahktin's ideas also intermingle with the compositional process, in particular, the concept of zones of intersection in novelistic discourse.
