2019 Albert H Maggs Composition Award

2019 Albert H Maggs Composition Award

The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music invites submissions for the 2019 Albert H Maggs Composition Award. This Award is provided as a commission for Australian composers for the creation of a musical work of a substantial nature. The value of the award is $10,000, with an initial award of $7,000 and $3,000 following submission of the composition to the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music library.

Applications for this scholarship close 13 October 2019. Applicants can expect an outcome four weeks from the closing date.

Entries are open to any Australian composer who has been resident in Australia for at least two years before the closing date for applications. The Maggs Award is not limited to 'classical' music, which gets harder to exactly define with every passing decade, and it doesn't preclude jazz or works influenced by jazz. The panel will primarily consider entries for their compositional merit taken together with the career of the composer. Previous awardees are also welcome to apply.

Selection will be made on the basis of documents including a list of works, overview of commissions, publications and performances, a copy of a score and matching recording of ONE composition you have written in the last three years.

> For full details, and to submit an application, please proceed to the Albert H Maggs Composition Award website.
