2019 Classical:NEXT Fellowships are open for applications

2019 Classical:NEXT Fellowships are open for applications

The Australian Music Centre and APRA AMCOS are calling for expressions of interest in being part of the 2019 Classical:NEXT Fellowship Program. EOIs to participate in this program are being sought from emerging professionals and experienced, senior students in the fields of composition, music performance and music presentation.

The program will see TWO successful Australian applicants (1 composer and 1 other) attending 2019 Classical:NEXT in Rotterdam in May, assigned to an experienced Classical:NEXT veteran as a mentor, with an opportunity to network with other professionals from all over the world attending the event. Details of the 2019 Fellowships are yet to be finalised, but it's expected there will also be workshops on networking, along with a special fellows get-together event held during Classical:NEXT.

This is a unique opportunity to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and networking opportunities offered by Classical:NEXT. The program is facilitated by Classical:NEXT together with a number of international partners.

Successful applicants will be provided with a stipend contributing to travel costs to Rotterdam, accommodation costs, Classical:NEXT registration costs, and per diem expenses. It is expected that the Australian Fellowship Program participants will also fully engage with the Australian delegation to Classical:NEXT, under the banner of the Sounds Australia stand.

Classical:NEXT is a global gathering for art music with more than 1,300 professionals from 45 countries attending the event in 2018. All branches of the classical music tree can be found, including orchestras, opera and music theatre, chamber music, publishers, arts presenters from concert venues and festivals, music export offices, labels, distributors, journalists, artist managers, musicians and many more. In addition to networking, Classical:NEXT's extensive conference program offers an overview as well as deep insights into key themes, current trends and future visions relevant to all sectors in the industry. Project pitches and live showcases complete the package with insights into artistic creations from around the world.

To lodge an EOI, you must:

  • Be a member of APRA, and a financial member of the AMC.
  • send to the AMC: 2 written references attesting to the program requirements, and supporting your candidature; your contact details, mailing address, web page URL, and links to your works/activities online, content that best represents you.

You will also be required to fill in an online form for Classical:NEXT - we'll email the link directly to all applicants who have sent us the information requested above, or you can email us so we know to notify you when the form is available.

In relation to personal attributes, we are seeking candidates who possess not only strong artistic skills, but who also are self-starters, good communicators and networkers. We seek candidates who are informed beyond their own practice, and who are able to speak to the wider Australian context. If you have the capacity to offer some reciprocal opportunities for other Fellows, or other Classical:NEXT delegates, this may work to your advantage.

Submit your information via email to John Davis - deadline is 9am AEDT 10 December 2018. Successful candidates will be informed in mid-January 2019.
