ABC Classic FM Australian Music Highlights - October 2008

The month of October on ABC Classic FM sees the first-stage launch of classic/amp – a new project to present a growing collection of ABC recordings of classic Australian composition and experimental music on the web. The music is being presented as on-demand streaming audio in Windows Media and RealPlayer formats, and will, over time, develop extensive cross-linking of related material both within the ABC website and with cultural partners such as the AMC. The first stage of the website is launching in mid October, so go to Classic FM's Australian Music website and follow the links to check out classic/amp.

You can also subscribe to our AMU (Australian Music Unit) podcast series to receive new Australian music weekly to your computer. This month's podcasts include recordings from Ensemble Offspring and The Song Company's Cage Uncaged concerts. You can also check out past podcasts.

Meanwhile, on the radio, catch performances of a variety of new and old Australian compositions and collaborations including the world premiere of a quartet from Adelaide-based composer David Harris and diverse music by Monica Brooks & Joe Talia, Brett Dean, Every Man 4 Himself (Griswold/Carr/ Hall/Edie), Malcolm Fox, Stuart Greenbaum, Hannaford/Tinkler/Rex/Edie, Graeme Koehne, Maxximal Patterrorist (Anthony Pateras & Max Kohane), Richard Meale, Richard Mills, Ian Munro, David Osbourne, Andrew Schultz, David Pye, Michael Smetanin, Paul Tanner, Nigel Westlake, and Michael Yezerski/Richard Tognetti. And more Australian music off commercial discs in At Home and Afternoons.
