AMC Welcomes the New National Cultural Policy

AMC Welcomes the New National Cultural Policy

The Australian Music Centre (AMC) welcomes the Albanese Government's launch of the new National Cultural Policy, 'Revive'.

As the national service organisation representing over 900 Australian art music creators, the AMC supports the National Cultural Policy, which places Australian artists at the centre of contemporary Australian culture.

Australian Music Centre CEO Catherine Haridy says, "Advocacy is a crucial part of our mission and we are thrilled to see the responsiveness of the Australian Government to the concerns of the Australian music community. It's crucial our art music creators feel seen, heard, and understood. Through this policy we hope they will be further recognised in their quest to create sustainable music practices."

The AMC looks forward to the establishment of Music Australia, which will support contemporary music creators through professional development, partnerships, research and market development.

The restoration of much-needed funding to the arts and creative industries, including the new Creative Australia, will also see a wide breadth of support generally for cultural organisations such as the AMC, which offer unique services to an important and often under-represented segment of Australian music creators.

The AMC welcomes the Australian Government's further investment into creative infrastructure and the preservation of cultural memory, which is critical to understanding ourselves as a society.

Further, the AMC applauds the Australian Government's commitment and investment towards recognising First Nations artists, their stories and creative practices as central to our arts and cultural heritage.

The AMC looks forward to the next five years and will continue to advocate for sustainability of art music creators nationally.

Is that it?!

Is that all the peak body advocating for Australian ART music has to say about this policy? I'm quietly appalled - both by the policy and the AMC's response.
