Australian Music on ABC Classic FM in December 2011
November's Australian music focus may be over, but there are still plenty of Australian music offerings in December on ABC Classic FM. Highlights include performances of works by Brett Dean, Graeme Koehne and James Ledger, and the Christmas Special features Gondwana Voices and the Sydney Children's Choir singing Australian carols by William G James.
On New Music Up Late in December we revisit selected live events at the ABC from 2011, as well as reviewing some of the C20th greats that should have made the Classic 100 Countdown but didn't.
And don't forget you can also listen to and read about Australian music online. Subscribe to our weekly AMU podcast (http://www.abc.net.au/classic/podcasts/feeds/amu.xml) for new Australian music direct to your computer. December's AMU podcast series features works from MODART 2011, a biennial professional development program providing opportunities for emerging composers to develop new work for voices. And check out the continuing presentation of archival recordings at classic/amp for Australian music from the past 100 years.
New Music Up Late
With Julian Day
Saturday 3 December 10:30pm: The ones that got away
Some of the C20th greats that should have made the countdown but
didn't. In the second decade of the C21, how much have Australian
classical music listeners absorbed the legacy of C20 classical
music, and in particular of the Australian contribution to
classical music, which falls almost entirely within that century?
As the last sounds of the Classic 100 Countdown Finale
die away, New Music Up Late reviews the damage.
