Australian Music on ABC Classic FM in October 2011

Australian Music on ABC Classic FM in October 2011

In October, on ABC Classic FM, there are world premieres of new works by Australian composers Andrew Byrne, Carl Vine and Joseph Twist and a focus on Australian classics as we kick off the voting for the Classic 100 C20th.

With the vast bulk of Australian classical music being written since 1900, there are lots of Australian works that could be in the running. Are there Australian works, whether recent or from previous generations, that you think deserve to be in the Classic 100 C20th? If so, get in there and vote! To help you along, Andrew Ford joins New Music Up Late for a C21st update on his classic Illegal Harmonies radio series, followed the next week by the program team's own take on some of the important Australian works from recent decades.

And don't forget you can also listen to and read about Australian music online. Subscribe to our weekly AMU podcast for new Australian music direct to your computer, with recent podcasts including a focus on Southern Cross Soloists performing new works by ensemble director Paul Dean, Stephen Leek, Gerard Brophy and Brett Dean. And check out the continuing presentation of archival recordings at classic/amp for Australian music from the past 100 years.
