A large Australian delegation is making its way to Bremen, Germany, this week, to take part in the Jazzahead industry event and showcase festival (25-28 April). SOUNDS AUSTRALIA and the AMC are supporting the delegation, with a base on stand no. 6B18 where a Meet the Australians Happy Hour networking event will take place on Friday at 5pm.
This year, the Australia Council for the Arts is onboard as the supporter of a new two-year program of market development for Australian jazz in Europe, delivered in partnership by the Australian Music Centre and SOUNDS AUSTRALIA. The project includes enhancing the Australian presence at Jazzahead in Bremen, and exploiting the AMC's membership of the Europe Jazz Network. As part of the project, the Sydney-based pianist and bandleader Zela Margossian will join the delegation this year as a special Jazzahead Fellow.
Jazzahead has been steadily growing ever since its inception in 2006 and is known as one of the most important international networking spaces for jazz musicians and industry. The showcase festival features top-class international jazz, including, this year, the Australian double bassist and composer Linda May Han Oh, who performs on Saturday 27 April from 11pm in Kulturzentrum Schlachthof Hall 7 as part of the Overseas Night. AMC is represented this year by chair Genevieve Lacey, and board member Martel Ollerenshaw who is also the vice-president of the Europe Jazz Network.
