Featured video - Thomas Meadowcroft's Cradles
The world premiere performance of
Thomas Meadowcroft's Cradles, for percussion duo and
Wurlitzer E-piano, recorded at the 2013 MaerzMusik Festival at
the Haus Der Berliner Festspiele. Percussion/Revox: Eugene
Ughetti (artistic director of Speak Percussion), Matthias
Schack-Arnott and Thomas Meadowcroft (Wurlitzer E-piano).
The composer writes:
'Cradles is a utopic lullaby, to help put treasured analogue
musical equipment to bed. The work takes its inspiration from the
sensuous, tactile relationship between a performer and his or her
instrument. The piece is dedicated to Speak Percussion for whom
it was written, and to Julian Burnside, whose generous financial
support made the commissioning of the work possible.
The work was co-commissioned by MaerzMusik and Julian Burnside.
