Helpmann Awards: Lifetime Award to Deborah Cheetham AM
Yorta Yorta soprano, composer and artistic director Deborah Cheetham AO has been announced as recipient of the JC Williamson Award, a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Australian live entertainment industry to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Australian live entertainment and performing arts industry. Normally awarded as part of the annual Helpmann Awards, now cancelled twice because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lifetime Awards from 2020 were presented in a separate ceremony in Melbourne this week.
Also recognised with a JC Williamson Award was the former artistic director and principal dancer of the Australian Ballet, David McAllister. Jill Smith AM and Ann Tonks AM received the 2020 Sue Nattrass Awards, recognising people in important service roles in the industry.
