Michael Kieran Harvey to present New Music Network's PGH Address
Image: Michael Kieran Harvey This year's Peggy Glanville-Hicks Address will be presented in Sydney (22 October) and Melbourne (2 November) by pianist and composer Michael Kieran Harvey. The outspoken and multi-award-winning musician is known for his wide repertoire, including many premieres, performances and recordings of numerous Australian and other contemporary works.
The event will include a rare performance of an excerpt of Peggy Glanville-Hicks's opera Sappho by soprano Alison Morgan and Michael Kieran Harvey.
Harvey was born in Sydney and studied piano with Alan Jenkins, Gordon Watson, and at the Liszt Academy, Budapest, under Sándor Falvai. His career has been notable for its diversity and wide repertoire. Harvey's awards include the Grand Prix in the Pogorelich Competition, USA (1993), the Debussy Medal, Paris (1986), the Australian Government's Centenary Medal (2002), the 2009 Classical Music Award for Distinguished Services to Australian Music, and the 2011 Tasmanian State Award for composition (Art Music Awards). The Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship for Australian keyboard art music was established in 2006. He is currently Adjunct Professor at the Tasmanian Conservatorium.

The address will take place at the Sydney Conservatorium's Recital Hall East on Monday 22 October at 6:30pm, and at Melbourne's BMW Edge concert hall (Federation Square) on Friday 2 November at 7:30pm.
The New Music Network established the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Address in 1999 - the composer's centenary will be celebrated on 29 December.
