Opportunity: APRA Professional Development Awards 2015

Applications are now open for the 2015 APRA Professional Development Awards. Held every two years, the APRA PDAs aim to create serious opportunities for emerging composers and songwriters. Eight winners, to be announced in November, will be offered career support worth $15,000 each.

PDAS will be awarded in the following categories:

• Popular Contemporary (including Pop, Rock, Blues, Folk, Hip Hop, Dance and R&B - three Awards)
• Country
• Jazz
• Classical
• Film and Television
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

In 2015, APRA AMCOS has also announced a new initiative, The Smugglers of Light, as part of the 2015 PDAs. This newly created Indigenous Music and Media Award will be announced as part of the 2015 PDAs and will provide a promising Australian Indigenous music or media practitioner a grant of $12,000. The Smugglers of Light foundation has been set up in memory of Eli Westlake, who was tragically killed in Sydney on 7 June 2008 at the age of 21.

The Australian Music Centre is one APRA's 22 partner organisations for the Professional Development Awards. These organisations are selected based on their expertise and involvement with the music industry, and will review each application in order to provide a shortlist to 2015 PDA judges.

Applications for the 2015 APRA Professional Development Awards close at 5pm on Tuesday 25 August 2015.
