Opportunity: Sydney Symphony Fellowship Composition Prize
The Sydney Symphony invites young Australian composers aged between 18 and 30 to submit new, previously unperformed compositions for chamber ensemble. The works should be of max. 10 minutes duration and composed for an octet consisting of the following instrumentation: oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, violin, viola, cello, double bass. The winning entry will be performed at Sydney Symphony Fellowship concerts in Penrith and Sydney in November.
The Sydney Symphony Fellowship is a program which immerses young musicians in the day-to-day working of the Sydney Symphony. As well as working with the SSO the ensemble presents chamber music concerts around NSW under the guidance of Roger Benedict, artistic director of the program and principal viola in the Sydney Symphony. The program sees Australian music as a vital part of the training experience for its participants and has commissioned new works from composers such as Andrew Ford, Matthew Hindson, Gordon Kerry and Roger Smalley.
The winning composition will be premiered by the Sydney Symphony Fellowship and recorded by ABC Classic FM for delayed broadcast. Submissions will be adjudicated by a panel consisting of: Ross Edwards, Paul Stanhope and Roger Benedict.
Submissions, including two printed copies of the score, one set of parts and a midi (or similar) audio recording of the work, should be submitted no later than 5pm on Friday 26 October 2012.
