8 Feb 2017 Composing against the tide by Jeanell Carrigan
A surprisingly large number of women born in Australia between 1860 and 1915 became composers of piano music. For most of them this was not a task easily accomplished - they did not always receive encouragement, let alone earn a living from their creative work. Many of these composers have been largely forgotten, most of their works perhaps irretrievably lost. Jeanell Carrigan has been researching and discovering this repertoire, playing and recording the music of these women - and now writing their story in a new book entitled Composing Against the Tide.
21 Oct 2020 The Composers' Series makes available forgotten repertoire by Jeanell Carrigan
Jeanell Carrigan's long-term research into the works of early Australian composers has resulted in a new series of published volumes of piano works by Australian composers Iris de Cairos-Rego, Marjorie Hesse, Katharine Parker, Una Bourne, Esther Kahn, Esther Rofe, Linda Phillips and Frank Hutchens. These collections can be purchased from the AMC.
