Event Details
52 Strings pairs two astonishing works that bring together Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, with talented string students and educators from the wider Toowoomba Region to create a mass ensemble of 52 strings. Local players will be invited to play in a rare live performance of Penderecki’s 1960 ‘Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima’, which brings to life the terrifying sounds of war. The full orchestra will also tackle one of the most glorious and well-loved works of the string orchestra, Vaughan-Williams’ ‘Fantasia on a Theme’ by Thomas Tallis. Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra completes the program with works from its forthcoming tour.
Featured non-Australian music: Penderecki, Vaughan-Williams, Telemann, Grieg
