Event Details

An Afternoon at The Pops with the Clarence Valley Orchestra and Chorus are back again at the Saraton Theatre with another fantastic program with Artistic Director & Conductor Greg Butcher on Sunday afternoon 27th October. This year’s special guest artists are The Kransky Sisters from Esk, who are driving their Morris down to Grafton to join the Clarence Valley Orchestra & Chorus for the concert. Venturing out from the secret laden walls of the sisters’ secluded home, this strange and endearing trio will share stories of their misfit adventures paired with famous songs gleaned from the old wireless at home. From Abba to Daft Punk, Sia to Steppenwolf, Pink to Pink Floyd, get ready to hear well-known tunes like you’ve never heard them before! With their peculiar spin on popular songs played on an eclectic mix of instruments including musical saw, tuba, old reed keyboard, and kitchen pots, these oddball Queensland Sisters are looking forward to bringing to the table their own tunes while sharing the Saraton Theatre stage with the popular local Clarence Valley Orchestra & Chorus. The Clarence Valley Orchestra has become the musical flagship of the Clarence Valley, promoting classical music and popular entertainment on a grand scale for the pleasure of both our community and visitors to the area. Profits from these concerts go towards registered charities or small scholarships for CVO members enrolled in a university music program to further their musical careers. Including today’s performance, there will have been over $100,000 donated to charity and other organisations since the orchestra’s inception in 2014. Over the last year and the following 2 years, the orchestra is working in partnership with the University of Wollongong and Grafton Hospital, initiating the first Clarence Valley Orchestra Medical Student Scholarship to help establish full-time GPs in the Valley.

Featured non-Australian music: Faure's Requiem In Paradisum, Prokofiev's Dance of The Knights, Shostakovich's Waltz No.2 from The Jazz Suite for Variety Orchestra, Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and more...
