Event Details

Natalie Williams's Whistleblower, featured in this concert, was commissioned by Carol and Norman Schueler in 2006 in memory of Mrs Gogo Schueler.

Tchaikovsky’s Manfred is the Russian composer’s response to the poem of the same name by  Lord Byron. In this symphonic fantasy, Tchaikovsky’s Manfred adventures in the Alps, encounters magical waterfalls, and then, in the best romantic tradition, witnesses an infernal  orgy, and dies! The ASO is joined by Russian pianist Denis Kozhukhin (winner of the First Prize at the 2010 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels) for Prokofiev’s most popular piano concerto, his pyrotechnical  Third.

Featured non-Australian music: Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev
