Event Details
This concert shows all that’s wonderful about festivals, with performers from around the world and repertoire that treads the heady balance of familiar favourites and the excitement of the new. Mischa Maisky makes his final Sydney appearance for 2015 with Bach’s eternally popular first cello suite. Ross Edwards’ most recent string quartet gets its fi rst hearing in this city with the Orava Quartet, followed by the world premiere of young Perth composer Lachlan Skipworth’s Piano Trio. The virtuosity of Kodály’s Duo is tempered by the sweetness of its folk inspirations; while Haydn’s glorious, sunny Quartet op 76 no 1 is considered by many to be a pinnacle of the artform.
Featured non-Australian music: Bach, Kodaly, Haydn
