Event Details

Politics can inspire frustration and annoyance ... but with their distinctive mix of strings, piano & saxophone, Topology have harnessed our political history as a wellspring for the creation of stirring new compositions. The basis of Topology composer Davidson’s music on Big Decisions is the sampled voices of Gough Whitlam, Sir John Kerr and Malcolm Fraser, recorded at the time of Whitlam’s dismissal in 1975. The effect of the sampled speech in combination with Topology’s lyrical instrumentation, is that the politicians are heard to sing; Whitlam waltzes his way through 'Well may we say God save the Queen'. Join Topology for an evening rich in wit, beguiling melodies and spirited performance.

'Topology strays off the well-beaten path chosen by traditional chamber groups and contemporary ensemble. Risk and wild spontaneity enthralls the audience' —Gillian Wills, The Australian

Performers: Topology: Christa Powell (violin), Bernard Hoey (viola), Kylie Davidson (piano), Robert Davidson (bass), and John Babbage (saxophones).

Featured non-Australian music: John Adams - Pat's Aria from Nixon in China
