Event Details
Don Kay's contribution to music for over 50 years is now well documented and much admired. An incredibly humble and quiet man, he has served the musical community, and specifically the Tasmanian community, with great passion and dedication for nearly all his life. The many awards he has received for his work, including his appointment as a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia, the Centenary Medal and the Clive Lord Memorial Medal from the Royal Society, actually only tell part of the story.
His contribution to music and music education is enormous, far reaching, and profound. The number of his students who now hold positions of authority and influence throughout the world in music and music education speaks to Don's remarkable ability to value, challenge, continually encourage and sow into the musical and cultural lives of other people. Don's career is genuinely one of selfless devotion to music and to the people who make it, create it, and love it.
The Conservatorium is delighted to be able to honour Don with a concert of his music, performed by past and current students and staff of the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music.
