Event Details

Gabriella Smart is acknowledged nationally as a passionate and accomplished exponent of contemporary music.

Chinese Whispers is a performance of contemporary piano solos from Australian, North American and Chinese composers including Academy Award winner Tan Dun (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Zhu Jian'er, resident composer with the Shanghai Symphony and adviser to the Shanghai New Ensemble. Smart toured the program to China during 2005.

The program embodies the metamorphosis of dance forms into absolute music, telling an eloquent story of physical abandonment and gentle embrace.

Smart is the recipient of the Helpmann Award for best Chamber and Instrumental Concert 2008.

Featured non-Australian music: Yi, Jian'er, Dun, Curran
