Event Details
Though composed almost a century apart, Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet No 1 and Shostakovich’s String Quartet No 7 have a shared desire to take the listener on an emotional journey from sombre depths to celebratory heights. Peter Sculthorpe’s String Quartet No 12 From Ubirr offers up a musical imagining of the landscape of Kakadu National Park and its cultural history. Ubirr is a rocky outcrop which has some of the oldest and best preserved examples of Aboriginal art. It inspired Sculthorpe to create one of his most evocative musical works.
Featured non-Australian music: Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky
