A commemoration on the 100th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli
John Spence will premiere his new piano work entitled Variations On An Australian Theme. John was awarded a grant from the Australia Council for the Arts to write this piece. It was composed in 2014 in the lead up to the centenary of the Gallipoli landing and captures the era with references to musical styles of the time including ragtime nostalgia and the stride piano. The legend of the Anzac sprit is celebrated through a colourful and dramatic musical journey.
The BlueScope Youth Orchestra is one of the Illawarra’s greatest ambassadors. They have performed throughout regional NSW as well as numerous tours including Europe and Indonesia and have left a great legacy of cultural exchange. This award-winning orchestra will present a program of their touring repertoire and will also include a selection of well-known Australian songs arranged by their conductor Nigel Edwards. BlueScope Youth Orchestra is supported by the BlueScope Win Community Partners program. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
