MARK ISAACS with BRIANA COWLISHAW and special guest JAMES MULLER

Foundry616 welcomes back pianist/composer Mark Isaacs with his long-term collaborators and tight rhythm section, Brett Hirst, bass and Tim Firth, drums, while Sydney's singer on the rise Briana Cowlishaw joins the band to add her stunning voice to the already exciting repertoire. This band performed the Cup Eve Concert at last year’s Wangaratta International Jazz Festival. Joining the unit as special guest on this occasion is the brilliant Australian guitarist James Muller in a rare Sydney appearance.

Mark and James have a collaboration dating back nearly 20 years and across six albums, most notably in the highly acclaimed Resurgence band which was nominated for two ARIA Awards and toured internationally, including the Tokyo Jazz Festival and a television program for South Korean national TV. Mark and James have not performed together since the 2012 Resurgence album Duende, which also featured Briana Cowlishaw, and so this will be a special and long-awaited reunion.

Mark recently co-produced a film for television of the premiere of his first symphony by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, a work commissioned by former media executive Kim Williams AM. The program had its world television premiere last October on Foxtel in Australia and will also soon be screened on Sky Arts TV New Zealand.

Performing a mixture of original songs as well as the band's own interpretations of standards and covers, the two one hour sets will be bursting with colour and melody. Hailed by The Los Angeles Times as “a splendid musical mind” jazz and classical composer and pianist Mark Isaacs has recorded and performed with some of the biggest names in international jazz yet he also writes symphonies and concertos and works as a classical pianist.

Mark Isaacs: piano; Briana Cowlishaw: voice; James Muller: guitar; Brett Hirst: bass + Tim Firth: drums
